La idea de que cuanto más sude, más peso perderá, es una creencia común entre los practicantes de ejercicio. Es común ver gente haciendo su actividad física con mucha ropa, plásticos y todo tipo de accesorios para aumentar la cantidad de sudor. Pero, ¿la transpiración realmente disminuye?

No, esa creencia es falsa. Aunque la transpiración tiene algunos beneficios para el cuerpo, como eliminar toxinas y perder calorías, el sudor no está directamente relacionado con la pérdida de peso. A continuación, veremos algunos elementos para entender por qué no perdemos peso cuando sudamos.

Comprender el fenómeno de la transpiración y si suda, perder peso

Cuando el agua se evapora con el sudor, parte del calor es absorbido por el aire y la temperatura corporal disminuye. Las circunstancias en las que el cuerpo suda más son el calor y la humedad. Cada persona es suya a un ritmo diferente, dependiendo de su tamaño, volumen y condición física.

Una persona grande generalmente suda más, porque tiene que enfriar una mayor cantidad de grasa. En el caso de aquellos que tienen una mejor condición física, esto también puede suceder porque el sistema de enfriamiento se ha vuelto más eficiente para ayudarle en el entrenamiento.

El sudor contiene principalmente agua, azúcares, sales minerales y residuos. Después de hacer ejercicio y sudar mucho, es posible que una persona pese menos y esto hace que usted tenga la idea equivocada de que sudar adelgaza.

De hecho, esta pérdida aparente de peso es una sensación temporal. Es una pérdida de agua, una deshidratación momentánea que debe ser compensada rápidamente para evitar graves problemas de salud. Cuando bebemos agua, se recupera el peso y desaparece la falsa idea de que perdemos peso cuando sudamos.

La grasa se quema y perdemos peso cuando sudamos?

La grasa corporal no se elimina a través del sudor. Se oxida y se utiliza como energía cuando se realiza actividad física. Cuanta más energía necesita el cuerpo para hacer ejercicio, más grasa pide a las células.

En este sentido, existe una relación indirecta entre la sudoración y la quema de grasa. Al realizar un entrenamiento intenso, el cuerpo activará el mecanismo del sudor aumentando la temperatura. Este ejercicio también implicará un esfuerzo importante que requerirá mucha energía y el cuerpo consumirá grasa para obtener esta energía.

Así, aunque el sudor no implica directamente la quema de grasa, la energía que el cuerpo necesita para realizar la actividad de producir sudor consume grasa. Así que indirectamente podríamos decir que sí, sudando esbelteces en este sentido.

Sin embargo, usar’trucos’ para sudar más no ayudará. No es el sudor en sí mismo lo que ayuda a quemar la grasa, sino la actividad que la causa. No perdemos peso cuando sudamos, pero podemos hacerlo haciendo ejercicios que nos hacen sudar.

Intentar sudar excesivamente puede ser peligroso

Si fuera cierto que la transpiración adelgaza por sí sola, bastaría con ponerse un abrigo de lana en pleno verano y permanecer en un rincón al sol durante varias horas. Obviamente, eso no funciona.

Algunas personas entrenan en lugares con altas temperaturas o usan mucha ropa para hacerlo. Otras personas usan plásticos alrededor de la cintura, pensando que de esta manera pueden quemar grasa. Sin embargo, la transpiración excesiva tiene algunos riesgos relacionados con la deshidratación.

Además, un músculo deshidratado tiene un mayor riesgo de lesión. Su elasticidad no es la misma y su capacidad de contraerse no es la misma. La consecuencia puede implicar un daño significativo en el cuerpo del usuario.

Debe recordar que un organismo mal hidratado no puede tolerar un aumento de la temperatura. Es necesario hidratarse antes, durante y después de la actividad física.

El nivel de líquido ingerido es un problema muy importante: una deshidratación leve puede causar mareos y dolor de cabeza. La deshidratación severa puede ser mucho peor y requerir incluso hospitalización.

Así que ahora usted sabe que, a pesar de la creencia popular, la sudoración no pierde peso y no perdemos peso sólo por la transpiración. La mejor manera de hacerlo es quemar más calorías de las que consume. Para ello, una dieta equilibrada y la actividad física regular son métodos mucho más seguros y eficaces.
